My path to becoming an acupuncturist

As a former employee of an international corporation, I spent many years in front of a computer. Traveling domestically and internationally to meet with colleagues, working on project deadlines and experiencing the physical and emotional stress that are all too often the result from a desk job.

Over the years, I developed chronic neck pain and lower back pain. I was constantly seeing massage therapists, osteopathic doctors for manipulation and chiropractors. One late summer, I developed severe allergies to what is commonly known as hay fever. My eyes were watering, my nose was running and I was miserable. I then started seeing an acupuncturist and during one of the first visits, she placed a needle on my face and my nose literally cleared up as I was laying on the treatment table. That’s when I started to research Chinese Medicine and decided that this was a profession that I wanted to learn. I had been looking to change my job due to the physical strain but I had also found the work unfulfilling.

My decision to become an acupuncturist has become one of the most transformational and rewarding experiences in my life. I received my acupuncture training at the Academy for Five Element Acupuncture in Gainesville, Florida. I’m board certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and have an acupuncture license from the State Medical Board of Ohio.

Now I have a job that I love – every day I learn something new and I thank my patients for putting their trust in me. I take the time to carefully listen to my patients’ personal stories whether it’s about their daily struggles, physical pain or emotional stress. Every detail gives me a better picture about how – together – we can focus on their goals to start feeling better and live a healthier lifestyle.
